DESMOND BURDON
HOW WERE YOU FIRST INTRODUCED TO THIS TYPE OF WORK/ARTISTIC PRACTICE - AND WHAT DID YOU ENJOY ABOUT YOUR EARLY EXPLORATION OF IT?
I started photography when I was 11 yrs old.
I was dyslexic and photography came naturally to me. I became a professional Advertising Photographer and worked for nearly 30 years, from London all over the World. After 30 years, I started to look sideways to create more, individual and artistic compositions. Digital and Photoshop came at the perfect time! I layered my photographs, and created new originals.
HOW HAS YOUR WORK/ARTISTIC PRACTICE CHANGED AND DEVELOPED OVER THE YEARS? WHAT FACTORS DO YOU THINK AFFECTED THIS?
After fine tuning my layering technic with photographs, I longed to take it further. And so I started painting and layering painted images, textures and bits of photographs.
PLEASE DESCRIBE WHERE YOU WORK FROM? WHAT DO YOU FIND SPECIAL ABOUT LIVING OUT WEST?
I work from my Studio, at our home. My partner is a potter, and has her workshop here as well. Come visit us!
WHAT CAN VISITORS EXPECT TO SEE WHEN THEY VISIT YOUR STUDIO DURING OSW?
I’m hoping to show a wide selection, of my work from my early photographs (layered), to my latest work, which are my paintings (again layered). Most images are for sale and can be purchased in a variety of sizes. All work is made at my studio. There are originals, that I’m working on now on the easels for you to look at. I personally look forward to meeting you, and showing you my practice and work. There are Greeting Cards from $5 to much larger works for sale. Most prints will need to be ordered, and delivered in a couple of days. All prints are on Handmade Archival Papers, with museum grade inks, and come with a certificate of authenticity, embossed and signed.
NAME YOUR TOP 5 SECRET SPOTS YOU LIKE TO VISIT IN THE WAITAKERE RANGES?
